A pedestrian who walked into traffic on Interstate 5 in Lynnwood was struck by a vehicle just before 3 p.m. Thursday, the Washington State Patrol said.
The pedestrian — identified as a 28-year-old Mount Vernon woman — entered the freeway on the eastbound shoulder of the interstate, near 212th Street Southwest, and was crossing west when a Cadillac Escalade headed northbound struck her in the HOV lane, the state patrol said.
The woman was seriously injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center.
The 55-year-old driver of the Escalade and her 26-year-old passenger, both from Edmonds, were uninjured, the state patrol said.
Wow. This is sad but wow you can’t be walking across interstates. I assume the driver didn’t see him and was going the speed on the exit? I don’t know what to think. But it is always sad when someone is hurt.
Drove past not long after it happened. Thought she was dead, knocked her out of her shoes! Not sure why she was on I5
Very sad, indeed. Yesterday, at 1:00 pm, I was driving north on Hiway 99 and was
preparing to turn left (west) to go to a clinic when a young-ish man from the west sidewalk intentionally walked across both southbound lanes and stopped as he reached my lane. He stood there looking unsure what to do. Luckily, I could stop short of the intersection by 15-20 feet with no problem. After about 30 seconds, he turned around and went back the way he came. We were both lucky in this circumstance but he may not be so lucky next time.
What drives a human being to cross I-5 during hours where traffic is increasing significantly for the afternoon commute? This is sad when people make bad decisions. I have witnessed increases in scary road rage incidents with motorcycles and other vehicles. On Monday evening at approximately 6:45 P.M. is was headed SB on Hwy 99 when I witnessed a motorcycle with driver and passenger on back terrorizing motorists from 220th through Edmonds on Hwy 99. I was rattled by what I saw!!! The lawlessness exhibited by drivers up and down the I-5 corridor and Hwy 99 are terrifying!!! Be safe!!! Arrive alive!!!
