Beautiful! Thank you for sharing this video!!
Hi Tom, is that gorgeous color visible from your using a filter, slow capture, etc? Our naked eye only sees varying shades of grey in the Aurora I think.
You are correct, I believe. The color receptors in our eyes are not vey sensitive; you are mainly seeing dim auroras with the more sensitive B&W rods. However, when you are well dark adapted you can sometimes see color in the brightest parts. This time, I could see by eye what looked like a faint cloud; I knew auroral activity was possible so I set up the camera about 930p and captured until dawn. First test shot showed green.
These videos are constructed from a series of still shots, each 5 seconds long (could do longer or shorter) then combined to a video -this is 12 frames per second; 12 frames of 5sec each, so speed up by about 60x. Just a light pollution filter, nothing special. Many cell phones can take quite good aurora pictures.
TOM, Much appreciated for your in-depth explanations and for taking the time to post on MEN!
Wow! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for sharing this video Tom and especially for explaining how you captured it. Since I will probably never see one so vividly from down here in Point Edwards, I really appreciate the time you put into the video and you sharing how it was done. It takes a lot of work and know how and what you produced is really beautiful.
