New source for garden and home decor lovers opens in Edmonds

Northwest Garden & Stone is a welcome new presence on 76th Avenue West in Edmonds’ Lake Balllinger neighborhood.

Plant lovers and holiday shoppers, rejoice! Northwest Garden & Stone is a just-opened small business that offers novel indoor and outdoor plants, hardscape materials, home decor and more (think luxury chocolates, candles and Stonewall Kitchen’s many tasty delights).

“This is something I’ve wanted to do for many years,” owner Gary Muskett said. “I’ve always wanted to open a garden center/gift shop to carry unique indoor and outdoor merchandise.” The store lives at the intersection of Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace and Shoreline at 24200 76th Ave. W. in the Lake Ballinger neighborhood and is open daily 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., with extended holiday hours until 7 p.m.

The store offers an assortment of garden and home goods ideal for holiday shopping and beyond.
Freshly cut, locally grown Christmas trees for sale at the entrance.

Muskett is a reputable mainstay of the local landscape supply scene. “I was born and raised in the dirt business,” he said. “I ran my family’s sand and gravel company in Bothell for 24 years.” In 2014, he opened Northwest Landscape Supply in Edmonds, focusing on supplying organic materials to local gardeners.

General manager Matt Porter, formerly of Molbak’s, was Muskett’s first hire at the new store. “We’re filling a niche for our community,” Porter said. “We’re looking to be different by having what we think is the best – or things that you don’t necessarily find anywhere else.” Offerings will include species not often seen in Puget Sound landscapes, like agaves, grevilleas, olive trees and eucalyptus. “And of course we’ll have trees, shrubs, a whole bunch of perennials, and some annuals so that everybody can change out their color,” he said.

In addition to gardening must-haves like trowels, fertilizer and planters, the store features covetable high-end items like McCrea’s caramels, John Kelly chocolates, LAFCO home fragrances and body care, and Thymes Frasier Fir candles. Muskett is also committed to featuring merchandise from nearby growers, artists and business owners as much as possible, including garden-ready glass art from locals Sandy Dahlberg and Jesse Kelly.

The store features colorful glass art for the garden from local makers.

Garden Coordinator Brynn Booth handles sales and social media. “I’m really excited about having the unique, high quality plants that people can’t find at most other nurseries. And I’m personally really into wild foraging, food forest gardening and permaculture – and we can definitely special order native and edible plants for customers who are into those things.”

“We’re interested in doing what people want us to do,” Porter said. “We look forward to hearing what people are working on, what their wants and needs are so that we can help them with those things. We want to make it as easy as possible, that’s for sure.”

  1. Thank you for this article about Northwest Garden and Stone. 24200 76th Ave. W. because I would not have learned of it otherwise. Sounds and looks like a beautiful and unique store.

    1. I have no affiliation with the garden center but do whole hardly recommend it. I’ve was there after Thanksgiving. They had GORGEOUS Christmas trees if you’ve not already purchased one. The shop itself is wonderfully displayed with houseplants & assorted gifts. I went by to buy a particular Thyme candle that I love for Christmas time & the winter months. Gary is very knowledgeable (used to work at Molbec’s for years), Please go by. It will be be worth your while.

  2. This is awesome news! A great new business since Wight’s and Molback’s closed. Good location too! Can’t wait to check it out!

  3. Very excited about this news! Being residents of Redmond and frequent visitors to Molbak’s with special interest in connecting with Matt while on site, this is welcome news! And, our back yard here currently has 12-13 Jesse Kelley’s collection! Huge fans!

  4. Very happy to see this addition to our neighborhood and all the work they have done on the property! Looks fantastic and we already got our Christmas tree for this year from here (we have gone for the last 7 years to their other location on 212th). It would be wonderful if in the warmer months with all of this space and parking they could do some sort of food trucks or beer garden and/or a coffee stand, which I am sure would draw lots of traffic in a part of town that really does not have these amenities. I think it would be a hit for us all and also draw traffic to their store!

  5. This is wonderful news. I am thrilled to hear this is happening. A good thing for Edmonds. Thanks Gary looking forward to meeting you. I love Molbacks and shopped there and in the Seattle Market Molbacks all of the time. I have been hoping to have our own nursery here and this is a great location for many areas to frequent. Good on the extended evening hours too. Are you open? Welcome Northwest Garden Store.

    1. Love that it will support Edmonds. It looks to be phenomenal!!
A great boost for development in that stretch of roadway as well.
A touch of Molbaks that we loved and miss

Can’t wait to shop your beautiful store. Esp Thymes Frazer Fir candles. Hope you have the room spray too!

  6. I’m extremely bias because I know the owners, but I’m also one of their top customers already, because I honestly love everything about this place. Their home decor, candles, treats and cocktail mixes are top notch. It’s the BEST place to buy gifts you won’t find at other places. And as an avid house plant collector, their selection of plants, pots and gardening supplies are amazing. The store is beautiful outside and in…. I’m so happy and proud of what you guys have created! I drive down from Lake Stevens to shop there, and it’s worth the trip every time.

  7. I’ve been there a couple times – great little gift shop! Will be fun to see what they become as they get discovered and grow!

  8. Great news! The next time I’m out and about, I’ll stop by and check it out.

By the way, there’s a typo in the sentence that begins General manager Matt Porter…. It should be Molbak’s not Molback’s.

  9. This is a huge improvement over the Parks Department storage yard, the previous tenant. The community and the city get an exciting new business, and Parks saves taxpayer money by storing equipment on land they already own. A win-win situation for sure.
