An Edmonds police investigation continues into an early Thursday morning shooting near the Edmonds Fishing Pier that sent an 18-year-old Everett man to Harborview Medical Center with mutiple gunshot wounds.

“Detectives are actively investigating all aspects of the incident to include the possibility of gang violence,” Edmonds police spokesperson Cmdr. Josh McClure said. “The victim remains in critical condition.”

No suspects are in custody or have been identified at this time, McClure added.

The victim was walking with his 20-year-old sister, also from Everett, just before 2:30 a.m. Thursday when they encountered a group of four to six males just west of Dayton Street and Admiral Way. After a brief verbal exchange, the victim was shot multiple times by one or more suspects, who then fled the area on foot.

The sister ran for safety and was able to call 911. Arriving officers located the victim within three minutes of the call being dispatched and were able to provide life-saving measures, including tourniquets and chest seals, McClure said. Emergency medical services crews transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center.

If you have information about the suspects, do not approach them and call the police. Tips about the case can also be emailed to policetips@edmondswa.gov

  1. Edmonds is dangerous. Two shootings in a few weeks. The experiment of defunding our police and school resource officers has led to a massive amount of crime. Kids shot, robbed at EW in parking lot. Gangs. Illegal aliens. Drugs. What about all this is progressive? Let me guess it’s legal gun owners and global warming? Right. So Seattle is officially in Edmonds. Great. You may think about your safety and vote out our Democrat super majority asap before it gets worse and it will. We are a sanctuary for criminals. Just look at the damage this ideology has caused. Who will they blame next?

    1. Astonishing you view this as a political issue over a society issue that all of us are concerned about. How do you know it’s undocumented people or for that matter, gangs? Most undocumented people keep a low profile, trying to make a better life here, and willing to work hard to do so. I don’t understand this continued hatred of others without any realistic solutions is helpful, other than to make you feel better and superior .

    2. Amen. These leftist views and policies are ruining this state. As an Independent, I could not consciously vote for the anyone on the left this year in any election. We need to get chaos in control.

  2. I really want to hear from major Rosen and city council. How exactly does cutting Edmonds Police improve the situation? And why does Edmonds allow finishing 24/7 in this property? Most city parks are only open from dawn to dusk precisely for this reason. I suspect the shooting didn’t not happen over a fish or squid, but rather over other illicit activities that take place at 3 am in this crowded area.

    1. What does cutting Edmonds police have to do with this situation and exactly how do you think Mayor Rosen or our city council could have foreseen this happening or how they could have somehow prevented it? Especially since they haven’t even begun to cut the police at this point. How does allowing fishing 24/7 have any bearing on how or why this happened? Is preventing honest citizens who like to fish or squid at night going to prevent something like this from ever happening? This is happening because ignorance about and the misuse of guns and illegal drug use are rampant in this entire country and no one has really figured out how to stop it. The idea that Edmonds is so special that it would be exempt from this lethal combination, (if we only had more and better policing), is preposterous.

        1. No but good times do happen sometimes up until around 2:00 when the bar closes. I bet you they were being responsible and walking home instead of driving. It’s unfortunate you can’t walk home from a night out anymore. And then you have people like yourself commenting as if it was their fault

      1. Two points Edmonds not Special? It’s the prettiest safest town in the World. You want to equal crime results for all towns in America or something.

Anyway having people hover around that late is COVER for criminals. Did you notice they got AWAY. Get real Man.

        1. Not to burst your false sense of security, Mr. Gow, but I live part-time in an HOA community in Tucson that I inherited from a living relative. (We are having a hard time meeting both the cost of this home and the outrageous cost of maintaining the home in Edmonds with it’s horribly mismanaged city government. Our last water/sewer bill here in the parched SW was $100 and in your “safest town in the whole world “was $700 and I’ve checked for leaks. Figure that difference out). It’s a beautiful little planned desert community with walking trails everywhere and two large swimming pools where everyone is friendly and look out for each other all the time. Edmonds isn’t more beautiful than this area; it is just a different form of beauty. And it’s about 10 times safer than Edmonds at this point. So as far as I’m concerned you can just, “Get real Man.”

    2. Squid fishing is much, much better at night. The piers are often crowded even late into the night. The rest of my thoughts line up with what Clint said

  3. I continue to be concerned & alarmed by the amount of violent crime in our formerly ‘safe’ Edmonds! Ceertainly, the personal safety of our citizens is a major concern for local government and the Police Department. Neighborhood CrimeWatch groups may help; and I would like to see this approach pursued. Let’s band together in support of a SAFE Edmonds.

    1. Some sort of unarmed volunteer eyes and ears group in close contact with commissioned police officers is a great idea, if well thought out and managed. Edmonds town government needs to have some sort of general volunteer co-ordination department that would hook up people qualified in various areas of expertise to help paid staff in every way possible. This would be one way to help solve this budget mess with something besides, “just raise their taxes and throw more money at it. ” Look what Scordino and his wife have done for the environmental problems with just a handful of dedicated volunteers and generous donation of their time and knowledge. You could have police volunteer aids, fire volunteer aids (a well established method in the past), parks worker volunteers for both routine upkeep and minor structural repairs, social worker volunteers to help with homeless and social dysfunction situations, and building upkeep squads for cosmetic things like painting and cleaning. You could have Mayor’s office executive volunteer aid and Council volunteer aids for research and public outreach activities. Food for thought.

      1. MAybe, but there can be a very fine line between ‘volunteer aids’ and vigilante wacko’s. Then you have a completely new crisis. Though, the idea of volunteers assisting in specific ‘chores’ (painting, cleaning, gardening, etc) might alleviate some time and budget restraints, if the program was well-managed… but then, that would probably have to be a newly appointed salaried city worker.

  4. Has there been any mention of possible connection between the break-ins/thefts at Stillhouse Coffee and SnoCo Pie Company in MT where cash tills were stolen same night this happened?

  5. The increase in recent months of graffiti on fences in this residential neighborhood, and on the walls of businesses, seems to indicate that the thugs from Everett have moved south. Lynnwood area had a 14-year old shot and killed recently. Edmonds has historically been pretty mellow, but there was a man shot and killed in a gas station on 148th and 99, an altercation a few months ago in the parking lot of Dick’s with injury and now this incident where someone was shot and is in the hospital in critical condition as well as the ongoing problems on 99. I’ve been an Edmonds resident for more than 44 years and can confidently say that the tone of the area has changed dramatically and not for the better. The defund the police movement was essentially a statement on values and we aren’t the better for it. I believe that it’s past time to reassess how we want to live our lives and then vote accordingly.

  6. At 2.30 am there are young people walking around downtown Edmonds? can we have police patrolling these areas and along the waterfront as well so the possible “gangs” are aware they could be stopped and questioned. Seems like we are in the new era of being more aware and prepared.

  7. I’m encouraged to see that people are concerned about the shooting that occurred at the waterfront, rather than brushing it off as just another day and another shooting. I also think that having volunteer citizens help the police as extra eyes and ears is a good one. What I find DIScouraging is when I see comments from people who jump to conclusions without knowing all of the facts. They have it “all figured out” – it’s illegals, it’s gangs, it’s the lack of sufficient police, it’s Mike Rosen’s fault, Edmonds is a hellhole and “this is why we left”. None of this makes sense to me. Violence among young people is a global problem, but more so in this country where guns are so easily accessible for resolving conflict. At the risk of sounding old, I remember when teenage boys would get into fist fights. The idea of finding and using a gun was almost unheard of. Someday I hope that people in all communities, big and small, wake up.

  8. I have been in downtown Edmonds for 25 years.
We do not have police patrolong the area. We must call 911 for support, if you walk by the police station, police presence is not apparent. I had to ring the fire department doorbell one evening for support when being followed by a group of teenagers for help, who in turn found an officer to come to help me.
We are noticing more and more issues, slowing but it is increasing. I am afraid to be out after dark. This started about 4 years ago.
After dark in the winter is ~5:30pm. I leave when it is dark for work and return home after dark from work as well.

  9. We have many citizens who have no idea what is going on with crime and who is committing the crimes. Do a little research. It takes strong leadership and accountability from politicians to prosecutors and judges to keep the public safe. This area has had a Democrat supermajority for years and they have ignored public safety and the numbers (FBI) tell the story. Let’s hold our political class accountable and insist on safety for our children. Not talking points regarding legal gun owner or global warming etc.

  10. Interesting conclusion Matt. Your hypothesis appears to be that the Democratic Party super majority for 40 years has caused our current public safety crisis. That being the case, the next two years of the Republican party having a majority (albeit not a super majority in congress) in all three branches of National Government should be a good litmus test for whether that super majority will bring about less crime, drug abuse, homelessness, and high prices in the whole country, except WA. State, because of it’s Democratic Party super majority. That’s their promise by their leadership anyway. Another question is, can they do this without declaring some sort of martial law and rule by edict rather than the law of the Constitution? It’s going to get interesting.

  11. Sometimes I wonder if people ever even try to think beyond their preconceived notions and beliefs about why things happen and how things can actually get resolved in a beneficial way for everyone. For example, the most recent case of domestic violence in Edmonds (claimed to be the safest place in the world by one citizen anyway) where the victim and the perpetrator first took an illegal substance known to cause violent reactions in humans and as a result a person died. Did this violence and probable crime have anything to do with defunding the police or immigration laws being enforced or not or gun laws being done right or wrong? The weapon used in this case was just human strength and the will to inflict harm on another human. I think the real problem in our society is that our laws are only enforced on and consequences for breaking them applied to people who aren’t important and don’t have much money or social standing. Time for me to take another walk in the desert, where it’s actually safe.

    1. This is not a good thing at all. Knowing that a supervisor of some department in our city is using Meth. Meth as we all should know is not something you can just buy in a safe place? I am sure you can buy it on the streets but were these young men cooking too? Meth is killing our youth too it’s just slower a bit then Fent. It just lets you live and destroys your brain. Fent addicts I am guessing don’t rob as much as well that’s a downer not an upper. Heroin although we don’t hear much about it is also a downer. It’s the crack and the meth causing the crimes, mainly. I have always wanted lock down TX facilities for 3 months with lots of therapy and encouragement. This revolving door plan did not work it just got worse…So that is where I want my tax dollars going (state) Once we get these large facilities then we can talk about discussing taxing us for other ideas, projects. Our drug crisis must be fixed or there will be no taxpayers after a while, and less and less support for any of our new Governor’s or legislators’ ideas. I will give them a chance if they see the light. Arrest, treat, drop charges at release and expunge records. A clean new chance!

    2. Without taking sides, if the Dems had 40 years to push the country one way, shouldn’t the Reps have 40 years to push back? Before we judge?
40 years vs 2 years doesn’t seem fair.
I am not a Dem or Rep.

      1. About your math, Mr. Cooper. Since the end of WW2, Democrats have been in the White House 39 years and Republicans 40. Control of the Congress similarly went back and forth during that period. Both parties had equal opportunity to “push the country one way,” so you might want to reconsider your premise.

      2. Read the comment I replied to.
It was their math I was referring to. Not mine
        I said “if”.
I only commented on the fairness of time in power and results.
I am a libertarian, not a Republican or Democrat.

      3. I’m not a Dem. or a Rep. either but, the issue isn’t a matter of long term judgement of success. It’s a matter of actual evidence of the truth or falseness that long term Democratic Party control has caused all our social and economic problems in WA. state. If this is true, and that supermajority control of the Republican party is the ultimate cure to all our problems, that should become apparent, now that we have that control at the National level. If that is the answer, then during the next two years, everything should get near perfect everywhere, but in WA. and other states that are still under Democratic Party supermajority control. The Red states will be some kind of heaven and the Blue states some kind of Hell. I don’t think that is going to happen and I think our real problem is the two party system itself and the general decline of ethics and human respect everywhere. We’ve all but given up on having a moral compass controlling our interactions with each other and the results are lots of name calling, posturing, and letting the criminal element (white collar and blue collar) pretty much off the hook much of the time. Our laws are for some, but not for others. Our legal system has become a bad joke.

  12. I guess we shouldn’t mention why we have a large spike in crime and who the criminals are and who ignored the crime for 50 years. It might slow up the investigation lol. Oh boy.

  13. I think Clinton Wright’s comment about our society’s lack of a moral compass is important. The lower rate of churchgoing is one cause of this lack of a moral compass. I remember asking a group of middle school students why they shouldn’t steal. The answer was “because we might get caught and get in trouble”. Thou shalt not steal or thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor seemed far from their mind.

    1. I certainly agree about a lack of moral compass- you have only to look at the behavior and language of our “celebrities” and politicians to see where the influence comes from, not to speak of the violence of video games, movies and TV. And we will not speak of the moral level of our in-coming government officials.

But I doubt if church-going is the answer. Some of the most moral and trustworthy people I know reject religion and church – you can derive a very good moral system by logic and philosophy. And so many pastors these days are being indicted for molestation or financial hanky- panky, not to speak of the “send money” TV preachers with their million-dollar homes and jets.

No – Morals are and always have been taught at home. And I speak as a church-going former vestry member and lay preacher.

  14. We are either a constitutional system of laws defining right and wrong being applied to all equally, or we aren’t. So far we aren’t for whatever reasons. Mostly failing to live up to the ideal due to political and financial rationalizations I suspect. Presidential immunity to all crime (to supposedly protect the country) and banks and manufacturing corporations too big to fail tells you all you need to know about how we roll, when all is said and done.
