I won’t use Swedish because they won’t honor Washington’s Death with Dignity process. They are owned in some way by the Catholics. I also would wonder if they will honor all aspects of a patient’s living will, because I know that other Catholic owned hospitals use an ethics committee to decide if they will honor a patient’s living will, so be sure to check on that. Unfortunately, Virginia Mason is also connected to the Jesuits so they don’t honor Death with Dignity. UW Medicine is the only big regional health provider that honors Death with Dignity. There are other women’s health care policies that may be affected by the connection to Catholics, so it might be prudent to ask what Swedish will and won’t do before you go.
Is providence in Everett (the hospital there) the main stakeholder. I believe Providence and Swedish merged a couple years ago. I assume one has more market share than the other. I think Providence is the ha COB and Swedish the CEO ha. Good to know this, Arlene Williams. Thank you. The UW does honor this as I had a friend who passed there, and I was his person to decide if it was time for him to go per his wishes. So, I know that is fact. Looks like if Virginia and Swedish and Providence refuse to honor a patients legal will then we have a problem…another problem. WOW unnecessary charges which burden insurance rates and the family member left living to pay the bill if not eligible for Medicaid until they are ha? This is another reason some end up homeless and not able to afford property taxes or food or anything etc. What a load of C. You would think as much as this state legislates it could do something about this or would they? Seemingly broke themselves…It might be time to move…I think I’ll see if Mayo Clinic and Hospitals honor death with dignity. Anyone know?
