ARTSplash Masked Art Show
July 18 @ 10:00 am - July 19 @ 5:00 pm
With so many art events cancelled for the spring and summer season due to COVID-19 concerns, the good news is that the Edmonds-based ArtistsConnect 2020 ARTSplash show will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 18 and 19th from 10am to 5pm at the Artworks building at 201 Dayton Street in downtown Edmonds, WA.
According to organizers, this year’s ARTSplash will feature a few key changes that support social distancing and mindfulness about keeping the community healthy. First, exhibiting artists will be wearing creative masks and the ARTSplash group asks that the public to mask-up to view the art. For visitors without a mask, masks will be available for a $1 dollar donation to the local arts. “Even though the building has roll up front walls that provide good ventilation to the space, we want everyone to feel comfortable about coming to the event so they can enjoy themselves. It’s a simple courtesy in consideration of our neighbors and we intend to have fun with it,” said Johanne Friedrichs, ARTSplash exhibitor.
With WA state health guidelines in mind, ten artists instead of the usual 20 will display original oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, art prints, photography, hand-made purses, jewelry, sculpture, and cards. Fewer artists, but not less art, means more space amongst the displaying artists, and lots of open space for visitors. The site has two bathrooms for easy hand washing, and there will be a hand-sanitizer station. A Plexiglas shield protects the cashier and patrons as they pay for art purchases (laptop computers will be wiped down between uses). The ARTSplash group also has a sanitation team ensuring that cleanliness is attended to, and signage will remind visitors to maintain 6-ft of personal space.
“Our intention is to present a fun opportunity for folks who are eager to appreciate live art again. The Edmonds community is recognized for its outstanding artists and for nurturing the arts. This crisis has shown the importance of the arts in keeping people’s spirit up and its cultural impact,” said Melissa Wadsworth, event registrar. Each ARTSplash artist will auction a piece of art, with proceeds supporting the Edmonds Art Festival Foundation’s (EAFF) educational programs. In addition, a portion of each regular sale goes to the Edmonds Art Festival’s support of Artworks.
ArtistsConnect Edmonds is a no-fee art group that meets the 4th Saturday of each month from 10am-12pm, at Artworks.
