Brahms, Gershwin & Debussy at Cascadia Art Museum

The romantic soaring Brahms Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 2 tops a varied program including the yearning duet Beau Soir by Claude Debussy, music from Porgy & Bess by George Gershwin and pieces by Elgar and Piazzolla.

Violinist Erica Johansen recently soloed with the Pazardzhik Symphony Orchestra in Bulgaria, she has performed frequently with orchestras throughout the Northwest and earned her Master in Music at UW. Erica is currently concertmaster of the Lake Union Civic Orchestra and performs in the new music group Scrape. She has recorded for artists including Zan Fiskum, Sky Cries Mary, Sera Cahoone, Sufjan Stevens, and Mastodon.

Pianist Harumi Makiyama returns to Cascadia, she earned her Master of Music at the New England Conservatory of Music, and a Doctor of Musical Art from UW, Harumi performs frequently in the Northwest.

Each month the museum features some of the Northwest’s finest chamber ensembles, soloists and opera singers. The concerts are about one-hour in length, leaving you time to dine out after. Concert tickets include admission to all the museum galleries, so plan to arrive early to see the current exhibits, Northwest Arts & Crafts Movement: The Chase Family and Friends; The Art of Reading; and Northwest Living – A Heritage of Mid-Century Design. Altogether the perfect evening!
