Come Discuss the Future for Dogs & Cats in Ukraine @ Graphite Arts Center in Edmonds
November 5, 2022 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pmFree
Since the invasion of Ukraine, over 1 million pets have been abandonded while over 12 million residents have fled their homes from the missiles, bullets and tank fire.
Prior to the war, the Ukrainian government had been diligent on sterilizing and vaccinating animals. They had only about a 36% rate of sterilization at the start of the war compared to 85% in the USA. However when the Russians invaded, the program ceased so they could focus on defending their country.
Most of the large animal groups have pulled out because their employees can’t work in a country under war.
Two Edmonds residents, Dan Fine and Tana Axtelle founded Ukraine War Animals Relief Fund and have been going there to help. They’ve learned a lot and still learning. So far, they have treated nearly 3,000 animals and delivered over 30 tons of pet food.
The plan is to go back in December to Kharkiv, Chuhuiv, Lyubotyn, Tishky and Vysoke – all newly liberated areas and run mobile clinics to sterilize, vaccinate, microchip and provide passports to dogs and cats at no charge.
Dan and Tana will be there along with some of Edmonds city representatives to discuss their efforts and get your input. If you believe animals deserve rights, you should attend.
Light appetizers, UWARF beer and wine will be served. There is no cost to attend, and donations to help with the cause will be gratefully accepted.
And, check out the new Graphite Arts Center, a community hub for artists and a way to spread the love of the arts in an inviting and sharing way. And if you are really hungry, make a reservation after the discussion at their restaurant, Charcoal.
