“In With the New” – Celebrating Gallery North’s Newest Member Artists
January 30 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 11:00am, repeating until January 31, 2018
In January, Gallery North presents “In With the New,” an exhibit highlighting the work of the gallery’s newest member artists. The show features Jackie Gilbert, Lynnea Mattson, and the glass artist team of Lori and Joel Soderberg.
Painter Jackie Gilbert has lived in numerous locations here in the US and abroad, but she always comes back home to the Pacific Northwest and her beloved Whidbey Island. She first formally studied art in college where her true passion for art won out over the pursuit of a traditional career. While living in Russia, Hong Kong, Fiji and Kazakhstan, she had the opportunity to explore the native art and painting styles which influence her works to this day. In recent years, Jackie has trained with a number of talented and accomplished artists, including master painter Liana Bennett. The constant and overriding theme of Jackie’s work is bold colors. She paints in both abstract and impressionist styles.
Lynnea Mattson’s adventure in painting started in 1999 when an injury interrupted her pursuit of her first love, sports. After experimenting with acrylic and oil painting, Lynnea was introduced to watercolors in 2005 and has never looked back. Lynnea has since studied under various well known artists such as Joe Garcia, Kathy Collins, Susan Bourdet, Michael Reardon, John Salminen and Charlene Collins Freeman. Award-winning artist Lynnea Mattson keeps her painting style fresh through seminars and classes from diverse instructors who challenge her. She also teaches watercolor classes for children and adults at several Northwest locations including Cloud 9 Art School in Bothell.
Husband and wife team Lori and Joel Soderberg work collaboratively on their very colorful and expressive fused glass creations. After experimenting in pottery and bronze sculpture, glass emerged as their medium of choice. Using their travels as inspiration, Lori and Joel have developed a strong, colorful style that reflects the influences of the folk art of Poland, the structure and forms of Italian glass, and the bright colorful mosaics of Barcelona, Spain. Lori and Joel continue to study and explore various fused glass techniques such as painting with crushed glass frit, enamels, and glass “combing” where the heated glass is manipulated with stainless steel tools to form patterns.
The artists’ reception is on Saturday, January 6 from 1-4pm at Gallery North. The artists will also be present at Gallery North during Art Walk Edmonds on Thursday, January 18 from 5-8pm. This exhibit is open daily through January 31.
