Lights for Liberty Edmonds – Unity Vigil Calling for An End To Immigrant Detention Camps

July 12 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join Us!

We are calling on the Edmonds Community to come and stand together in unity against the inhumane detention of immigrants in our country. Across this nation, we are witnessing acts of abuse against people fleeing persecution and violence in their home nations. There are documented cases of teen mothers and infants held without water or medical care, children held in dog cages, and sick, disabled, and elderly immigrants confined to “icebox” rooms kept at 55 degrees, a cement floor, and a plastic space blanket for warmth. Family separation has resulted in children lost in a system that failed to keep track of them, making it likely some will never see their families again. And the immigrant LGBTQ community has been held in solitary confinement. Yet NONE of these immigrants have committed a crime; they are seeking protection and refuge from the violence and hopelessness in Central American countries through the internationally and federally LEGAL asylum application process.
This situation grows worse by the day as more and more camps are set up. We are paying $750 per child of our tax dollars to private corporations set up to house them at minimal cost, with no education, recreation, legal services, or interpreters. THIS ATROCITY IS A PROFIT-MAKING ENTERPRISE.
THIS IS NOT OUR AMERICA; this is not who we are.We have been a beacon of hope for the world, and have been a model of human rights protection; now, the world is horrified, as I am, at what we are doing.
The vigil will be more than holding candles and saying prayers. We will have information and resources, and leaders to answer your questions, and we will uphold the truth, based on the evidence, to join our voices with millions of people around the world (there are 544 Lights for Liberty events scheduled around the world so far, 33 in Washington State and 13 in other countries.)
We must speak out against these camps and prisons, which violate every basic human value, commandment, and religious belief we hold dear.
We The People must call upon our leaders to stop this madness.
