Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra: I Got a Right to Sing The Blues
February 18 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Join us for SRJO’s annual “Basie Bash,” this year featuring three guest vocalists from the Seattle jazz scene: Jacqueline Tabor (winner of the 2011 Seattle-Kobe Jazz Vocalist Competition, and the 2012 Golden Ear award for NW Vocalist of the Year), Butch Harrison (who was featured in SRJO’s 2017 tribute to Louis Armstrong) and Darliene Parker (touring vocalist from the acclaimed Maceo Parker band), in a celebration of Count Basie’s legendary collaborations jazz singers such as Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Williams, Frank Sinatra and Billie Holiday. You’ll enjoy swinging Basie hits “All of Me,” “I’m Beginning to See the Light,” “Too Close for Comfort” and “Every Day I Have the Blues.” Also presented will be the classic, “I Got a Right to Sing the Blues” that Sarah Vaughan recorded with the Basie band—and that title says it all! Three concerts – Saturday February 16 7:30PM at Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall, Sunday February 17 2:00PM at Kirkland Performance Center, and Monday February 18 7:30PM at Edmonds Center for the Arts.
