Local residents are invited to participate in a free disaster preparedness workshop and earthquake drill this Thursday, Oct. 20 at Edmonds Library. The earthquake drill is part of The Great Washington ShakeOut, an annual preparedness event. Celebrating its fifth year, the Great Washington ShakeOut encourages people to “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” at 10:20 a.m. Oct. 20.

Immediately following the earthquake drill, there will be a disaster preparedness workshop. Edmonds Managing Librarian Richard Suico will introduce Program Manager Dara Salmon from Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management (DEM). Salmon will teach participants about “building disaster supply kits, creating a family emergency plan and how to stay informed when disaster strikes.”

The earthquake drill and workshop is intended for all ages. Workshop attendees will also be familiarized with Sno-Isle Libraries disaster preparedness resources and have the opportunity to take away some safety swag.
